TRAVEL SCREEN

Travel is one of the most common actions in the game, and the most strategic.  This is where the candidate decides where to spend his or her precious time at.  When the travel screen appears, the state list will be selected on the state your candidate is currently located in.  Notice that the OK button is disabled because you can't travel to the same state you are in.  On the Travel Map, the state you are currently in appears in green.

You can browse the state list by clicking on state names or using the arrow keys.  As you select new states in the list, that state will appear in yellow on the Travel Map.  The further you travel from your current state, the more expensive the cost.  Cost to Travel shows the price you'll pay to travel to that state from your current state, and Your Treasury shows how much money you have.  If you don't have enough money to travel to the selected state, the OK button will become disabled.

When choosing a state to travel to, keep in mind how much time you have left before the election and what states you are seeking most to support you.  The State Information area of the screen shows the information about the state.  Some of it is educational such as Name, Nickname, and Flower.  Some of it is crucial to your campaign such as Currently Supporting, Electoral Value, Political Tendency, and the Concerned About list.

You want to win as much state support that you can, so you'll want to travel to states that agree with you issue priority and the states that tend to support your political party.  Most of all, you want Electoral Votes!  Keep in mind winning a state with twenty or so Electoral Votes is more strategic than winning a state with three.  On the other hand, winning a lot of the states with smaller Electoral Votes builds a good foundation for the candidate.  The other candidate might not even visit some of the states you win support of.  Guess who those states will remember come election time?

The state information categories are explained below:

CATEGORY

DESCRIPTION

Name The name of the state you have currently selected.
Currently Supporting This shows which candidate has the current support of the selected state.
Nickname The official nickname of the selected state.
Flower The official flower of the selected state.
Electoral Value How many Electoral Votes the selected state is worth.
Political Tendency Which party the state tends to support.  The state also can be neutral and tend to support either party equally.
Concerned About The issues that the state is concerned about is listed from the highest concern (at the top of the list) to the least concern (at the bottom.)  If a issue is listed in the list, then the state places at some level of significance.  If not all issues are listed, then the state is not concerned at all with the issues not present.  They will, however, expected higher points on those issues they have listed.

You will want to match your candidate's issue points (in the Your View on the Issues area of the Travel Screen) with states that match it.  You can't change your issue points, but some states may fit your points like a glove.  Some state's won't agree with your issue points.  That does not mean you will not win the state's support.  It just means you'll have a more difficult time doing it.  But don't let that stop you from traveling to states you need to win!

When you have found the state you want to travel to.  Click the OK button.  If you decide not to travel, click the CANCEL button.
