THE ELECTION

This is when the nation shows you what they thought of your credentials and your efforts as a candidate.  The election polls up until this point have made a best guess as to who the states support, but only the election will show for certain.

The game takes an educational approach to the election.  The states will decided the candidate in alphabetical order.  This is different from an actual election which moves from the east coast to the west coast.  However, the result is the same.  The election map looks similar to the template shown below.

Notice that state information is not accurate in the example above because information may change from version to version of the game.

The screen above shows a sample of how the election map will look before the states begin voting.  As each state completes its decision, the map will fill the state with the appropriate color of the candidate it is awarding its Electoral Votes to.  As each state is deciding, the candidates can view who the state was currently supporting, the Electoral Vote value of the state, and who the state has a tendency to support.  At the bottom of the screen you can see the status of the candidates including their Unpopularity percentage and how many Electoral Votes, Popular Votes, and States the candidates are carrying.  If you've watched a Presidential Election night on television, this is going to look very familiar.

Who wins the election?  The candidate with the most Electoral Votes.  Can a candidate lose even though the candidate has more Popular Votes than the opponent.  Absolutely!  That's politics!

At the end of the election, the winning candidate will be announced.  A honorable screenshot will be displayed announcing that either the Democratic candidate and Republican candidate has won the election.  The screen will also show the Electoral Votes, Popular Votes, and States carried by each candidate after the election.

If the candidate did an exceptional job winning the election, the candidate's name and election status can be shown in the President-Elect chart.  This is discussed on the following page.  Click the NEXT button above.
