FRANKLIN D.R. HORNE:

We had a garage down across the road from the house,
and that's where all of us young boys hung out.
And, uh, one evening, I guess we were talking about that graveyard there back by the... behind the garage.
And, I thought well, why don't I take a trumpet up there
and blow the trumpet at maybe midnight or one o'clock in the morning?
And, the reason I wanted to do that is the little town of Lackey
is built right around that mountain,
and on top of that mountain is a graveyard.

So, me and a buddy, we were going up there,
and he got one of his buddies to come with us,
and we were going up there and we's just about on top,
     and a cow mooed.
And, it scared Sonny's buddy to death,
and he took off running back down the hill as fast
as he could go scared to death,
and he ran into a barbwire fence and got tangled up in that.
And, he was fighting that fence was for all it was worth
'cause he thought it was a ghost!

We finally got him settled down and got him out of that wire,
and he would not go back up there with us.
So, Sonny and I went on up, and I took that trumpet
and I played "TAPS" to the north...
     "TAPS" to the west...
     "TAPS" to the south,...
And, I'm telling you, I think every light in that little town of Lackey came on
wondering what in the world that was.
I think they thought it might have been old St. Peter blowing his trumpet.

And, that's the true story,...
and that's the way it is.
