USER MANUAL INTRODUCTION

Don't be intimidated!  Politics looks scary but is actually very easy to understand.  Keep in mind that PEC(TM) is not like a shoot 'em up.  It is more like a good game of chess.  The players are required to think, study, and use strategy to win the game.  It is a glorious win indeed!

This on-line manual will take you step by step through the entire process of installing and playing PEC(TM).  Click the BACK and NEXT buttons above to navigate through the user manual.  You can also jump directly to where you want to go by clicking one of the hyperlinks in the index.  Click the INDEX button for that.  HOME will return you to the front page of the PEC(TM) web site, and DOWNLOAD DEMO will take you to the web page where you can download the free demonstration version of PEC(TM).

HOW DO I PLAY PEC(TM)?

The goal is to win the election and become President of the United States of America.

You become a candidate in the political race.  You choose the number of weeks you want to play, and the election will fall at the end of those weeks.  Each turn takes up one week and both candidates get their chance to play that week.

During the weeks before the election, you travel the country campaigning.  Its not that easy though.  Campaigning cost money so you have to keep up your treasury by fund raising.  You also have to keep up your health to be an effective candidate.  So you'll have to rest too.

Not every state is going to like you immediately.  You may campaign several days in a state before it supports you.  As a result, you'll want to be selective in the states that you go after.  You'll want to research states to see if they agree with the issues you support or whether they have a tendency to support your political party.  Most of all, you'll want to look for the amount of Electoral Votes the state can give you.  Remember that it is Electoral Votes that win the election.

Other obstacles lay in wait to come upon you during the campaign process.  The media may write slander articles against you, which can be damaging to your reputation.  Each candidate has an Unpopularity percentage that needs to be kept at a minimum.  Usually acts of public service are the best means of dropping the Unpopularity percentage.  However, other efforts may also drop Unpopularity.

Being unpopular can really work against you.  It's a negative factor that taints your performance.  You'll come to appreciate this fact if you don't pay attention to it.  It can blow your entire campaign!

Debates can make or break you depending on how you handle them.  Is it worth the effort to debate?  It depends on your condition.  If the country hates you, you could accept a debate or dedicate your time to other things.  If you win the debate, the whole country can change their tune about you.

Let's not forget the under-the-table opportunities that can pop up.  A little money here, a little medicine there, and a little promoting never hurt anyone, right?  If it's illegal but nobody knows, it can do nothing but benefit you, right?  That's the chance you have to take with discrete opportunities like these.  If you get busted, it can hurt really bad!

Now you got the general idea of the game, go ahead and step through the user manual.  By the end you'll probably be addicted to PEC(TM) or, worse yet, you'll run for the real deal yourself!
